Chief Data Officer

Background: River were retained by a leading Interdealer Broker firm to search for a CDO. This was a critical hire for the firm as the CEO believed they were behind the curve with respect to risk management, regulatory compliance and it’s data asset management. The firm had initially attempted to fill the position themselves through a combination of personal networking and advertising, but this approach had proven to be unsuccessful. Therefore a decision was made to engage River to search the market.

The search: We conducted extensive research, mapping out the competition and identified a long list of 48 candidates. The candidates were subsequently qualified and assessed based on both their quality and suitability for the role. A final short list of 6 candidates was presented to the client 4 weeks after initial engagement on the search.

The outcome: After carrying out interviews with the preferred 3 candidates, the client made an offer to their first choice which was accepted. The candidate served a 6 month notice period and commenced employment with our client in November 2017. Since starting our candidate has drawn up a new strategic plan in relation to data management and risk compliance and the implementation is well under way. River are now assisting the client with a further 2 senior positions reporting directly in to the CDO, which will effectively contribute to the ongoing development of the firms data capability.
