Director of Corporate Development EMEA

As a result of high levels of Japanese M&A activity outside Japan, the Head of Investment Portfolio for Sumitomo Corporation Europe was seeking to bring in an experienced Corporate Development Director, who would report directly into them. Sumitomo required an individual with a proven track record in Corporate Development who also had strong investment banking fundamentals. 

The challenge Sumitomo had previously had in their search, was finding an individual with the blend of Investment Banking and Corporate Development skillset, who would also be a cultural fit within their organisation. 

River used its extensive Corporate Development network and market knowledge, combined with in-depth research methodology, to create a long list of 122 individuals in the market with the required skillset. The team approached 80 individuals, conducted interviews with the top 25% and subsequently presented a shortlist of the 5 most qualified candidates in the market within 3 weeks of engaging with the search. 

The Head of Investment Portfolio chose to interview all 5 candidates, moving 3 through to a final round. After the result of the final round of interviews the Hiring Manager wished to hire 2 of the candidates. Offers were made to 2 candidates, one of which was accepted. As a result of the successful placement River were asked to begin a fresh mandate with Sumitomo to bring in a Senior Director of Corporate Development.
